Pirates of the Burning Sea Exchange Shop Devlog

Monday, April 7th, 2008

potbs.jpg

The latest Pirates of the Burning Sea devlog from Flying Lab covers the replacement of Delivery Missions with much more friendly and useful Exchange Shops. Isildur, the author, has been working on the Commendation exchange, the Marks of Victory exchange, and the Citations of Conquest exchange which he explains in detail.

Types of commendations are being slashed form 10 to 5. Players will have opportunity to exchange types that will no longer be used in the game with valid commendations. One of the biggest changes in commendations is the nerfing of Heroism and trading awards for free ships.

Players will now be able to trade Marks of Victory for faction points. You’ll also be able trade for explosive round shot and smelling salts or pony up a nice thick stack of Marks to purchase a lineship structure item. Some of the more common recipe books will now be purchasable.

The Citation system is receiving similar tweaks:

Citations of Conquest received an update similar to that of the Marks exchange. I’ve added many of the more rare books to the Citation exchange (although, as I mentioned, the rarest of the books are still loot-only). If the item you really want is a Mark exchange, I’ve also added the ability to convert your Citations of Conquest into Marks of Victory.

Get the full details on all the changes as well as some intel on changes in store for patch 1.4 on Pirates of the Burning Sea.

More Painful Takedowns in New Trailer for The Bourne Conspiracy

Monday, April 7th, 2008

Sierra has unveiled a new trailer for the upcoming title, The Bourne Conspiracy, based on the books by Robert Ludlum. Like almost every other video we’ve seen from this game, this one also shws Bourne doing what he does best: hurting people. Seriously, it’s like a montage of of some of the most painful-looking fighting moves ever. We’ll have to see how visceral those fights really are when this game finally gets released.

If a Petition Gets a Million Signatures, Uwe Boll Will Stop Making Movies?

Monday, April 7th, 2008

uweboll-1.jpgI’m sure the majority of us have wished that there were some way to get Uwe Boll to just stop making movies and further sullying the “video-game-to-movie adaptation” genre. Well, the man himself may have just given us an open door. In a recent interview with Fearnet.com, he was asked about a recent online petition requesting he stop making movies altogether:

Are you aware that there is a petition online, signed by 18,000 people, requesting that you stop making movies?

Yeah, I know that. 18,000 is not enough to convince me.

How many would it take?

One million. Now we have a new goal.

Yes, we do have a new goal! You read that right: if this petition…hold on, excuse me…THIS PETITION RIGHT HERE gets a million signatures on it, he says he’ll quit making movies. It’s up to over 60,000 now. Who knows? He may not live up to his end of the bargain, but it’s worth a shot. Go, internet, go!

Monday, April 7th, 2008

the_witcher_dm.jpg

Word is out that CD Project Red has released its new The Witcher: DuelMail game to open beta. The closed beta was a lot of fun so I recommend getting in on the open beta testing. You do have to have Flash installed on your PC to play. For more information on The Witcher: DuelMail flash game check out Gaming Today’s previous coverage of the game featuring information directly from the blog of Tom Ohle, CD Project Red VP of PR and Marketing for North America & UK. The Witcher: Duel Mail will be released May 9.

In addition to playing with the new game, fans should also stop by the The Witcher website to pick up the new 1.2a patch. It fixes a few issues with version 1.2, and should tide you over until version 1.3 and Djinni are released.

NwN2: The Planescape Trilogy - Purgatorio Art Update

Monday, April 7th, 2008

roguedaostudiosmortuaryscreen1.jpg

nwn2_ps_architecture.jpgnwn2_ps_creatures.jpgRogue Dao Studios has released art for the Neverwinter Nights 2 mod they’re developing; The Planescape Trilogy. The series is a new story told in the Planescape setting not a mere retelling of Planescape: Torment.

The art features Architecture and Creatures for Purgatorio. The architecture is well done and interesting, but the creatures truly standout. The biomechanical creatures are like nothing you’ve seen in NWN2.

The original files are very large 4Mb and require a little patience to view, but the wait is worth it. You can find them on RPGWatch.

Orlando Bloom Cast in the Lead Role for the Prince of Persia Movie

Monday, April 7th, 2008

orlandobloom1-1.jpgRemember a few weeks ago when it seemed like an actual prince might be cast in the Prince of Persia movie? Well, better just forget about ol’ David K. Zandi since it looks like he’s been beaten out by Legolas. That’s right, apparently Orlando Bloom has been cast in the lead role for the upcoming Prince of Persia film. I suppose this shouldn’t be a huge surprise, since this is a Jerry Bruckheimer film, and Bloom was also in the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy. The film is set to begin filming this July in Morocco. It’s supposed to be the first in a trilogy too, so at this point, Orlando Bloom has probably spent the majority of his career acting in trilogies. Before you start lambasting too much about this decision though, keep in mind that Zac Efron was apparently his strongest competition for the role; so it could’ve been much much worse. Now it just remains to be seen which Orlando Bloom we’ll be getting: the badass from Lord of the Rings or the big, doe-eyed wuss from all his other films.
